Аннотация: Эмили Джонсон исследует истоки и эволюцию краеведения в Санкт-Петербурге в начале XX века по архивным материалам. В книге рассматривается деятельность движения за сохранение истории, которое возглавили участники кружка «Мир искусства» и авторы журнала «Старые годы», педагогического экскурсионного движения и Центрального бюро краеведения. Оригинальное издание этой книги (Penn State University Press, 2006) было удостоено премии South Central MLA и премии Николая Анциферова за лучшую работу иностранного автора о Санкт-Петербурге.
